Summary Intentional fires have been set to clear the Tripa forest in Indonesia's Aceh province. The forest is burnt to clear land to have oil palm plantations replace the forest. Many species are losing their habitats such as the Sumatran orangutans. The red apes are in the endanger species list. Not are the animals that inhabit the forest are being hurt but also the atmosphere is being containment with the release of more carbon dioxide. The need for palm oil is causing animals homes and the atmosphere to be pollute with more carbon dioxide. The red apes are not the only species losing their homes the Sumatran tigers and the Sumatran rhinos are also endanger species.
Plans to get palm oil from sustainable source have been establish. KFC and Cadbury had replace palm oil with other vegetables oils provided by Australia markets. Other ways to put a stop to this macabre of destroying animals habitats and polluting the atmosphere is by asking where the palm oil is coming from. People have the power to demand the palm oil is being grown in sustainable places that don't hurt the environment and their ecosystems. |
My ReflectionPalm oil is in everything from food products to cosmetic products. The bad news is that is causing our forests, to obtain this cheap efficient product external cost is the homes of orangutans, Sumatran tigers and rhinos. As citizens of the planet we must demand where palm oil is coming and refuse to buy if it comes from places like Indonesia because it's not sustainable. Destroying our forests for palm oil is not the best thing to do.
